vBulletin Forum is most user friendly forum. We offer webhosting for vBulletin Forum within a resonable price. Today I am going share your a tutorial where you find how to intall vBulletin forum on your cPanel server.

This is a step by step friendly way to install most forum softwares. Specifically I will explain how to install either vBulletin or XenForo.

The things you will need to do:

  1. Login into cPanel
  2. Setup FTP Account
  3. Create Database and User
  4. Configure Config Files (vBulletin only)
  5. Transfer files via FTP
  6. Install and Setup Administrator

Login into cPanel
If you do not know how to login to cPanel refer to: https://toshost.com/blog/how-to-login-to-cpanel

Setup FTP Account
Once logged in to cPanel click on "FTP Accounts". Under Add FTP Account create a Login, Password, and as for the directory use the following: public_html/
You've successfully created an FTP Account.
Make sure you have saved your crendentials.

Create Database and Users
Go to MySQL Databases create a new database. Then under Add New User create a username and password. After that is done, under Add User To Database click on the database you've created and the user and click Add. The next page should display all privileges, toggle (check) all privileges. Then click Make Changes.
Make sure you have saved your crendentials.

Configure Config Files (vBulletin Only, XenForo you'd need to configure in the installation page)

In vBulletin you would need to open up the .zip you've downloaded extract and locate the folder upload, after upload you'd need to go to the includes folder and there will be a file displayed "config.php.new" or a file that resembles that name. Open the file in text, wordpad or any coding software.
There will be a few things you'd need to change and should look like the following:
$config['Database']['dbname'] = 'forum';
$config['MasterServer']['username'] = 'root';
$config['MasterServer']['password'] = '';
Replace the dbname, username and password with your database name, username and password you've created.
From there save the file as config.php

Transfer Files via FTP Client to Server

Download an FTP Client such as Filezilla or CuteFTP: https://filezilla-project.org/
Once downloaded, connect using to your host it is usually ftp.domain.com and your username and password you've created. The default port is usually 21, or leave empty.
Once you've succesfully logged in drag and drop/transfer your vBulletin files inside the upload folder. For XenForo you would just need to transfer all files into the server because there is no upload folder for XenForo.

Install and Setup Administrator

Once you've finished transfering:
For vBulletin go to: http://www.yourdomainname.com/install/install.php
Enter your Customer Number, then it would procede to install the software and then you'd need to Edit your Website name domain url and settings. Once that is completed, the next page will require you to create the credentials to your admin account.
Once completed, its important you delete your /install/install.php file.
For Xenforo go to your index page: http://www.yourdomainname.com/
Once that is done, you'd be asked for your dbname, username and password. Leave the host as "localhost" if you are asked for a hostname, it should be set default as localhost. After that you'd be asked to create user and password.
